Syrian Central Bank vehicle crashes, money spills onto the road
Banknotes spilled onto the Damascus-Homs highway after a vehicle transporting money for the Central Bank of Syria crashed, leading nearby civilians to gather the cash. Security forces arrived at the scene and recovered the money.
A vehicle transporting money for the Central Bank of Syria crashed on the Damascus-Homs highway after a tire burst. The vehicle overturned, spilling a large amount of cash onto the road. Meanwhile, civilians in the vicinity began collecting the scattered banknotes. However, security forces arrived at the scene shortly after and intervened, recovering the money.

The Central Bank of Syria had transferred its authority to print money to the Central Bank of Russia during the Assad administration, and this agreement remains in effect. For this reason, the Syrian pound is printed in Russia.
THE MONEY HAD ARRIVED BY CARGO PLANE
The accident occurred while the new banknotes, which were brought to Damascus by cargo plane the previous day, were being transported to the Central Bank in civilian vehicles following delivery. Officials stated that all of the transported money was safely delivered to the bank.
Due to the severe liquidity crisis in the country, the Central Bank of Syria had lowered ATM withdrawal limits to control cash flow. The daily withdrawal limit, which was previously 200 thousand Syrian pounds, was raised to 500 thousand pounds yesterday. The Central Bank announced that the incident would have no impact on the system.
