UN: Areas Israel ordered to evacuate cover two-thirds of Gaza
A statement from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) pointed out that the areas Israel has ordered to be "evacuated" in Gaza, which it has kept under attack, account for two-thirds of Gaza's total land area.
In a statement released by OCHA, it was noted that the land area of the places Israel has ordered to be "evacuated" in Gaza, which it has kept under attack since October 7, 2023, has reached 246 square kilometers.
It was pointed out that this constitutes two-thirds of the total land area of Gaza, which covers approximately 360 square kilometers.
It was stated that 1.78 million Palestinians resided in the areas Israel ordered to be evacuated before October 7, which corresponds to 77 percent of Gaza's population.
IT HAD ALSO LAUNCHED ATTACKS ON SAFE ZONES
After launching its offensive on the Gaza Strip on October 7, the Israeli army had asked Palestinians in northern Gaza to move to the southern and central parts, which it claimed were "safe."
Due to the attacks, Palestinians in northern Gaza were forcibly displaced. In December 2023, the Israeli army also launched ground attacks on Khan Yunis in the south and central parts of Gaza, which it had previously claimed were "safe."
Following these attacks, thousands of civilians, including those who had been forcibly displaced from the north, were forced to leave the places where they had taken refuge once again.
