White House announces: One-month exemption for automobiles from tariffs on Canada and Mexico

Leavitt made evaluations regarding the tariffs during a press briefing.

Stating that U.S. President Trump has spoken with Stellantis, Ford, and General Motors, Leavitt said, "We have spoken with the three major automakers. We will grant a one-month exemption for all automobiles coming through the USMCA."

Explaining that Trump granted the exemption at the request of companies associated with the USMCA to ensure they do not face an economic disadvantage, Leavitt reiterated that the reciprocal tariffs will go into effect on April 2.

Leavitt stated that Trump is also open to hearing other requests for exemptions.
