Zelenskyy: 'Without US aid, Ukrainian forces will be forced to retreat'

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the importance of US aid in an interview published yesterday.

Stating that if Ukraine does not receive the US military aid currently blocked due to disputes in Congress, Ukrainian forces will be forced to retreat "in small steps," he said, “If there is no US aid, it means we have no air defense, no Patriot missiles, no jammers. This means we will retreat in small steps. We are trying to find a way not to retreat.”

Noting that a shortage of ammunition means having to make do with less, Zelenskyy said, “How? By retreating, of course. If you shorten the front line, the Russians could reach major cities.”

Volodymyr Zelenskyy added that Ukraine is trying to solve the problem of insufficient missiles with weapons and air defense systems they produce themselves, but that it is not enough.

Stating that the US response to attacks on Ukraine has not been positive, but that Kyiv uses its own drones, he said:

“We used our own drones. No one can say you cannot use them. If we do not have air defense systems to protect our energy systems and the Russians attack them, why can't we respond? Their society has to learn to live without gasoline, without diesel, without electricity. When Russia stops these steps, we will stop too.”

''THE BILL IS OF VITAL IMPORTANCE''

US President Joe Biden stated that the passage of the aid package bill for Ukraine is of “vital” importance against Putin, but Speaker Mike Johnson in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives has blocked the aid package for Ukraine that passed the Senate.

Zelenskyy expressed that the approval of the bill is vital during a phone call he held with Johnson on Thursday.
