Istanbul Bar Association elections
I recently wrote an article about the bar association elections.
Since I am not a lawyer, I am not directly involved in the matter, but the article had quite an impact.
In the piece, I mentioned the lawyer from the Aegean region who, in the Izmir Bar Association elections, had decimated her opponent like a six-shooter revolver, stringing together words like a gunman from the Society for the Defense of Rights.
I concluded by saying, "May the same happen for the Istanbul Bar Association."
However, it seems the atmosphere in Izmir is not present in Istanbul.
According to what is being said, the "Second Republicans," who say, "You deepen Ergenekon so that the Turkish nation may become refugees once again," are in the lead.
The number of candidates defined as Ataturkist has been deliberately increased so that votes would be split and the path would be cleared for the eastward migration of the Turkish nation, which began in the 18th century and was halted in the Inönü district of Eskişehir.
Lawyers who would likely gather under the umbrella of the Society for the Defense of Rights in the event of any attack or occupation are reportedly being pressured by politicians from institutions that were brought to life by Ataturk's own revolutions—through coercion or excessive manipulation—to side with those who are waiting for an opportunity to touch the first four articles of the Constitution.
Since I only know two or three members of the world's largest bar association, I penned this article in the hope that a bar administration that will defend modern Turkey will be formed.
I wrote it so that patriotic lawyers might come to their senses and not seek adventure; so that we may watch a peaceful derby match on Monday evening.
