Reminding the European Parliament of the massacres committed by the Greek Cypriot Administration against Turkish Cypriots, based on the Greek Cypriot press
The European Parliament (EP) has adopted a new resolution recommending the allocation of funds from the 2027 EU budget for a so-called monument that the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA) plans to build, as part of the 2027 EU budget negotiations held on September 3-4, 2026.
In fact, this resolution is a renewal of the draft resolution dated October 24-25, 2025, which aimed to build a monument focusing solely on the suffering and losses of Greek Cypriots, with reference to the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation.
The resolution dated October 24-25, 2025, was also strongly condemned at the time by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Turkey for being contrary to the principle of impartiality and historical reality.
What is the content of the resolution?
In the opinions of the European Parliament Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality regarding the 2027 EU budget, a recommendation was adopted to allocate funds for a so-called monument planned to be built with unfounded allegations against the Turkish Armed Forces, at the request of the GCA.
In their statements regarding the repeated resolution, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye and the TRNC recall that “the allegations put forward aim to distort and politicize historical facts, and that the Turkish Armed Forces saved the Turkish Cypriot people from extinction with the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation and brought the peace environment that has lasted for half a century to the Island,” and
“call on EU officials not to become a tool for the games of circles aiming to alienate Turkey from the union, noting that the European Union institutions moving away from the principles of impartiality in the Cyprus issue damages inter-communal trust.”
Reminding the European Parliament of the massacres committed by the GCA against Turkish Cypriots, based on the Greek Cypriot press
The most concrete and resonant confessions regarding the massacres and murders committed against Turkish Cypriots in the past have been brought to the public agenda by various media outlets, primarily the Politis newspaper, in the Greek Cypriot press.
Confessions and documents stating "We killed Turks" in the Greek Cypriot press and politics are gathered under the following main headings:
• Confessions of Politis Newspaper
The high-circulation Politis newspaper, which publishes in the Greek Cypriot side, openly brought Greek Cypriot atrocities to its headlines in previous years with a series of articles titled "File of Unpunished Crimes." The newspaper also wrote that the order to "Kill 10 Turks for every Greek killed" was given directly by higher authorities.
The newspaper also included examples of massacres such as the "Taşkent Massacre" and the "Lake Massacre."
In the Taşkent Massacre, it was openly confessed in the Politis newspaper that the execution order for 84 Turkish Cypriots, who were rounded up from their homes on August 15, 1974, was given by the Greek Cypriot General Staff and military authorities.

In the Lake Massacre, the newspaper's archival revelations included the fact that 10 Turkish Cypriots who disappeared in one night on May 11, 1964, were cold-bloodedly shot and killed by a group of Greek Cypriot police officers by a lake.

• Confessions of EOKA Hitmen on Greek Cypriot Television
EOKA terrorist organization hitmen Neoptolemos Leftis and Athos Petridis, who gave an interview to the Omega TV channel in Southern Cyprus, made blood-curdling statements on live broadcast. The hitmen, who are over 80 years old, boasted about how they shot and then stabbed 68 Turkish Cypriots to death starting from 1964, and threw their bodies into wells/pits.

• Confessions of Politicians and Ministers
In August 2026, former GCA Foreign Minister Erato Kozaku-Markoulli and AKEL MP Yorgos Koukoumas called for a social confrontation by recalling the massacres committed by Greek Cypriot far-right gangs in the villages of Muratağa, Sandallar, Atlılar, and Taşkent in 1974. The politicians used the expressions, "Let us accept the facts, we massacred Turks and no Greek Cypriot was punished, we must apologize to each other." As can be seen, I did not convey the massacres committed by the GCA against Turkish Cypriots from the Turkish and TRNC press. I reflected the news that came directly from the GCA press.
The GCA wants to make the Turkish Massacre in Cyprus forgotten with the resolutions it has had the European Parliament adopt with the support of Greece.
I hope that the European Parliament Committee on Women's Rights and Gender Equality learns the most concrete and resonant confessions made in the Greek Cypriot press regarding the massacres and murders committed against Turkish Cypriots in the past.
We also have a word for Greece, the partner of the GCA.
History has witnessed numerous massacres committed by Greeks against Turks. One of these is the “Morea Massacre.”
