The Mudanya Armistice was signed between the Government of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and the Allied Powers on October 11, 1922, following the victory of the Great Offensive.
The important provisions of the treaty, which left Eastern Thrace—from the occupied Bosphorus and Dardanelles to the Maritsa River and Edirne—under Turkish sovereignty, are as follows:
"-The armistice will enter into force three days after it is signed, on the night of October 14-15.
-Armed conflict between Turkish and Greek forces will cease.
-The Greeks will evacuate Eastern Thrace within 15 days. The region will be transferred to Turkish administration within 30 days through the mediation of the Allied Powers.
-Until the Peace Treaty is signed, the Turkish army will not be able to cross into Thrace. In return, a gendarmerie force not exceeding 8 thousand in number could be sent for internal security purposes.
-Until the signing of the Peace Treaty, the right bank of the Maritsa River and Karaağaç will remain under the occupation of the Allied Powers, and Turkish forces will not be able to cross the line determined in the Dardanelles and İzmit."
THE PREFACE TO LAUSANNE...
The final agreement was reached in Lausanne. The Mudanya Armistice is also described as the 'preface' to the Treaty of Lausanne, which is the title deed of the Republic of Turkey... It paved the way to Lausanne...
Beyond being a peace that ended a war, it is also the name of a beacon of hope...
It is also "the legal victory of an anti-imperialist struggle that would ignite the resistance of oppressed nations against imperialism, as Asım Pasha expressed to Harrington in the conference hall" (Türkan Başyiğit, Mudanya Armistice in Memories)...
Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's assignment of İsmet Pasha to Mudanya and Lausanne, and the fact that the second President of the Republic of Turkey and Western Front Commander İsmet İnönü wrote history in Mudanya and Lausanne, once again demonstrated that Atatürk was a visionary leader.
İsmet Pasha achieved a great success with the diplomacy he conducted.
Happy 103rd anniversary of the Mudanya Armistice, where our National Struggle was crowned with peace...
