The mysterious world of Tomris Uyar meets art lovers

The Nilüfer Municipality Library Directorate, which dedicated the year 2023 to Tomris Uyar, examined the master author's literary life from different disciplines throughout the year, while the Nilüfer Municipality Culture and Social Affairs Directorate brought the master author's workspace and living area to Nilüfer with a special exhibition.

The exhibition titled "Yürek Hakkı: Tomris Uyar’ın Yazı-İmge Dünyası" (Right of the Heart: The Writing-Image World of Tomris Uyar), which aims to present the impressive imagery that Tomris Uyar, who holds a privileged place in Contemporary Turkish Literature with her translations and short stories, developed without compromising her own style, from the author's own perspective, has opened to visitors at the Nâzım Hikmet Cultural Center.

The exhibition opening was attended by Nilüfer Municipality Culture and Social Affairs Manager Nejla Aslan, Tomris Uyar's son Hayri Turgut Uyar, Dr. Necmi Sönmez, and numerous literature and art enthusiasts.

MANY VALUABLE MATERIALS ARE ON DISPLAY

Curated by Dr. Necmi Sönmez, the exhibition features many valuable materials, ranging from the writing desk Tomris Uyar placed in the living room of her home to the sofa set where she hosted prominent figures of the era, from objects in the space where she wrote her works to the visual images that were influential in her writing processes, and from her personal belongings preserved to this day to the manuscripts accompanying her collection and paintings gifted by her friends.

Uyar's first editions of her books, which focus on women who worked, raised children, and struggled to hold onto life throughout her lifetime, also add a distinct value to the exhibition.

The exhibition, which takes visitors on a journey into the world of Tomris Uyar, will remain open to visitors at the Nâzım Hikmet Cultural Center until January 14, 2024.
