Mustafa Karataş receives news of his brother's death during live broadcast: Cuts program short
Prof. Dr. Mustafa Karataş learned of the passing of his brother, Davut Karataş, who had been receiving treatment in intensive care, during a live broadcast.
Theologian Prof. Dr. Mustafa Karataş received the news that his brother, Davut Karataş, had passed away during his television program. Upon learning the news during the live broadcast, Karataş was deeply saddened and, stating that he was having difficulty continuing the broadcast, cut the program short.
Karataş explained that his brother had been receiving treatment in intensive care for some time and asked for understanding and prayers from the audience. Speaking with difficulty on the air, Karataş said, "I have received some news. My younger brother, or rather our middle brother, Davut Karataş, who is between Yusuf and me, had been in intensive care for 4 months. Now the news of his passing has arrived. It will be a bit difficult for me to continue this broadcast. But I ask for your understanding and prayers."
The funeral arrangements for Davut Karataş were also announced later. In a post on his social media account, Mustafa Karataş stated that his brother's funeral prayer would be held on Monday following the noon prayer at the Karabük Yüzüncü Yıl Mosque and that he would be laid to rest in Karabük.
Born on March 20, 1961, in the Gürün district of Sivas, Mustafa Karataş completed his primary and secondary education in Karabük. A graduate of the Marmara University Faculty of Theology, Karataş continued his academic career at the Istanbul University Faculty of Theology; he received the title of professor in 2013. Karataş is known to a wide audience through television programs such as "Cuma Sabahları" (Friday Mornings) and "Muhabbet Kapısı" (Gate of Conversation).
