New government formed in Syria: First statement from Al-Bashir

The 53-year rule of the Assad family in Syria has come to an end. In the transition process, which is considered the beginning of a new era, Muhammad al-Bashir, head of the Idlib-based Syrian Salvation Government, has been appointed as the interim Prime Minister.

In his statement, Al-Bashir announced that the Syrian government would assume its responsibilities during the transition period until March 1, 2025.

This significant decision was made following critical talks held between Syrian opposition leader Abu Muhammad al-Julani, Assad regime Prime Minister Muhammad Ghazi al-Jalali, and Muhammad al-Bashir. As a result of the negotiations, Assad regime Prime Minister al-Jalali agreed to transfer power to the Syrian Salvation Government.

WHO IS AL-BASHIR?

Born in 1983 in the Jabal Zawiya region of Idlib, Muhammad al-Bashir graduated from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Aleppo University in 2007. Having started working as an engineer at the Syrian Gas Company in 2011, al-Bashir had been serving as the Prime Minister of the Syrian Salvation Government, which governs the Idlib region, since January 2024.

The new transitional government is expected to initiate a period of stability and reconstruction for the Syrian people.
