Floods in Kazakhstan: State of emergency in 20 regions

Floods caused by melting snow as temperatures rise and heavy rainfall continue to affect the western, northern, and eastern regions of Kazakhstan. Evacuation efforts are ongoing in the affected areas.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan, it was reported that while there has been a slight decrease in water levels in the western parts of the country, a significant rise in river water levels has been observed in the central, northern, and eastern parts.

The statement indicated that the impact of the floods continues in 5 regions, and a state of emergency has been declared in 20 regions.

16 THOUSAND PEOPLE EVACUATED

The ministry's statement included the following: "Difficult conditions persist in the Aktobe, West Kazakhstan, and Kostanay regions. Search and rescue operations are ongoing in these areas. Throughout the flood process, nearly 16,000 people have been evacuated, 6,000 of whom are children."

The statement also noted that volunteers in the emergency zones are continuing to provide necessary support to the public and are monitoring water levels in dams and rivers.
