It has been 3 years since the passing of theater, cinema, and television actor Rasim Öztekin. It has been 3 years since he left us.

As the fifth holder of the traditional 'kavuk' (turban) in Turkish theater and a smiling face of television and stage, Öztekin earned a place in hearts through his acting, as well as his voice-over work in series and films and his newspaper columns.

The artist, whose full name was Rasim Mükerrem Öztekin, was born in Istanbul on January 14, 1959, as the child of Şükran and Atilla Fazlı Öztekin.

The successful actor, who attended Galatasaray High School, graduated from the Istanbul University School of Press and Broadcasting.

Rasim Öztekin took his first steps onto the stage by participating in amateur works at the Istanbul Academic Artists Community, Kadıköy Public Education Center, and Nöbetçi Tiyatro.

HE SHARED THE STAGE WITH THE MASTERS OF TURKISH THEATER

Becoming a professional theater actor in 1980 with Ferhan Şensoy's Ortaoyuncular troupe, Öztekin performed in all of the troupe's plays between 1980 and 1992, including "Şahları da Vururlar," "Kahraman Bakkal Süpermarkete Karşı," "İçinden Tramvay Geçen Şarkı," and "İstanbul'u Satıyorum."

The master actor shared the stage with prominent names of Turkish theater such as Münir Özkul, Erol Günaydın, Tuncel Kurtiz, Ferhan Şensoy, and Zeliha Berksoy.

Between 1992 and 1995, Rasim Öztekin appeared before audiences in "Müzikomedi" with Nükhet Duru and Demet Akbağ, "Mega Show" with Hülya Avşar, İbrahim Tatlıses, and Demet Akbağ, and the "Yeşil Kabare Shows" with Demet Akbağ and Ayşen Gruda.

The artist, who staged the musical "2071'de Türkiye," written by Gani Müjde and Yılmaz Erdoğan, in 1994, also took part in the production as an actor.

HE STEPPED INTO CINEMA IN 1986

The master artist served as a presenter for programs such as "Görevimiz Komedi," "Komedi Türk," "Bak Hele Bak," "Eğrisiyle Doğrusuyla," "Biraz Düş, Biraz Gülüş," "Eşref Saati," and "Bizden Size."

Stepping into cinema in 1986 with the film "Bir Günlük Aşk," the artist acted in many films throughout his career, including "Kurt Kanunu," "Şans Kapıyı Kırınca," "G.O.R.A.," "Düğün Dernek," "Mandıra Filozofu," and "Çalgı Çengi İkimiz."

Following the television series "Köşe Dönücü," Öztekin won the appreciation of audiences with the characters he portrayed in series such as "Klavye Delikanlıları," "Geniş Aile," and "Seksenler."

While also doing voice-over work for cartoons and commercials, the artist shared the lead role with Beyazıt Öztürk and Candan Erçetin in the musical "Yıldızların Altında," written by Gani Müjde and directed by Mehmet Ergen. The successful actor also worked as a program scriptwriter at TRT.

Serving as a columnist for the newspapers Akşam and Star, Öztekin also wrote articles on various topics on his own website.

The master actor suffered a heart attack in 2009 during the play "Boş Gezen ve Kalfası," and a pacemaker was implanted during his treatment.

Rasim Öztekin took part in various social awareness projects, particularly those related to health.

HE HANDED OVER THE KAVUK TO ŞEVKET ÇORUH IN 2020

Having received the 'kavuk'—an important symbol of traditional Turkish theater—from theater artist Ferhan Şensoy in 2016, the artist handed it over to Şevket Çoruh in 2020 due to health issues.

Pelin Öztekin, his daughter from his marriage to Zeynep Aslıhan İsbay, who is also an actress, was born in 1987. Öztekin married journalist Esra Kazancıbaşı in 2005.

Selected as "Best Actor" at the 1988 Altan Erbulak Awards, "Most Successful Actor of the Year" at the 1995 İsmail Dümbüllü Awards, and "Best Supporting Actor" in the comedy and musical category at the 2003 Afife Theater Awards, Öztekin was also named "Artist of the Year" many times by NGOs, media outlets, and universities.

Öztekin, who also had a book titled "Atış Serbest" compiled from his columns, passed away on March 8, 2021, at the age of 62, in the hospital where he was taken due to heart problems.
