Europe's most active volcano, Etna, has reawakened
Etna, one of Europe's most active volcanoes located in Italy, has become active again. As a result of the eruption, the volcano spewed lava and ash.
Etna, located on Italy's Sicily Island and the most active volcano in Europe, has become active again. An eruption occurred in the volcano's Voragine crater. The 3,357-meter-high volcano spewed lava and ash.
ETNA'S HEIGHT ABOVE SEA LEVEL HAS CHANGED
According to the latest information shared by the Etna Observatory of the Italian National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the height of Etna, which had not experienced any eruptions since 2021, has increased above sea level as a result of volcanic activity that has been ongoing in the Voragine crater since the last week of June.
It was stated that the height of the Voragine crater, which has frequently spewed ash and lava in recent days, has reached 3,369 meters due to accumulated lava, surpassing the 3,347-meter-high southeast crater, which is one of the volcano's most active craters.
Measurements taken after the intense volcanic activity, particularly between July 5-7, in the Voragine crater confirmed that its level had risen.
Mount Etna, where volcanic activities such as ash and lava spewing, lava flows, and tremors have been frequently observed in recent weeks, holds the distinction of being the highest active volcano in continental Europe.
