Candidacy crisis between Davutoğlu and Babacan: Talks end without result
It has been stated that the merger talks between the Future Party and the DEVA Party, which entered Parliament on CHP lists in the last general elections, have ended without a result.
The merger talks held between the Future Party and the DEVA Party, which entered Parliament on Republican People's Party (CHP) lists in the last general elections, have failed to yield a result.
Participating in İsmail Küçükkaya's program on Halk TV, DEVA Party Chairman Ali Babacan had stated, "Our merger talks with the Future Party are ongoing. Either a merger will happen, or a group will be formed. However, we are looking at whether this group can be strengthened with participation from other parties in Parliament."
'DECLARE ME AS THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE'
According to a report by Samet Eker from Türkiye newspaper, it is alleged that Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu responded to Ali Babacan's merger proposal by saying, "Declare me as the presidential candidate. I want to run as a candidate against President Erdoğan."
TALKS END WITHOUT RESULT
However, the DEVA Party Presidential Board, reminding that the presidential election will be held in 4 years, proposed, "It would not be right to declare a presidential candidate this early. Ali Babacan could be the chairman of the newly formed party, and Ahmet Davutoğlu could be the honorary chairman." It was claimed that this proposal was not accepted by Davutoğlu and that the merger talks ended without a result.
