Up to 22.5 years in prison requested for DEM Party's Mehmet Sıddık Akış

The trial of Mehmet Sıddık Akış and 14 other defendants, who were sued on allegations that they "operated within structures linked to the PKK/KCK terrorist organization between 2009 and 2013 and organized attacks involving stones and Molotov cocktails," continued in the city.

The defendants, who are being tried without arrest, did not attend the hearing at the Hakkari 1st High Criminal Court, but their lawyers were present in the courtroom.

In their opinion on the merits, the prosecutor requested that the case file be separated for defendants E.A. and F.D. because the arrest warrants issued for them could not be executed, and that their trials continue separately.

The prosecutor's opinion stated that defendant Akış operated as the "so-called local leader of the armed terrorist organization," and requested that 9 defendants, including Akış, be sentenced to 15 to 22.5 years in prison for "managing an armed terrorist organization," and that 4 defendants be sentenced to the same term for "membership in an armed terrorist organization."

HEARING ADJOURNED

Defense attorneys requested time to present their statements against the prosecutor's opinion.

The court panel adjourned the hearing to June 5.

A lawsuit had been filed against Akış and the other defendants on allegations that they operated within structures linked to the PKK/KCK terrorist organization between 2009 and 2013 and organized attacks involving stones and Molotov cocktails.

Akış was elected Mayor of Hakkari from the DEM Party in the March 31 Local Administration General Elections.
