Sentence handed down to the killer of director Dariush Mehrjui and his wife
The death penalty has been given to the person who killed Dariush Mehrjui, one of Iran's world-renowned directors, and his wife Vahideh Mohammadifar.
Iran new wave cinema's leading directors Dariush Mehrjui and his actress wife Vahideh Mohammadifar were found dead by their daughter in their home near the capital Tehran on October 14, 2023.
Authorities announced that the couple had been stabbed in their home.
10 PEOPLE DETAINED
It was stated that 10 people were detained on suspicion of being connected to the incident during the investigations launched into the murder.
While one of the 4 defendants in the case was sentenced to death, the other three were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 8 to 36 years. It was revealed that the killer had previously worked for the director and was angry with him due to financial issues.
Mehrjui, who also lived in the USA and France, had been the recipient of numerous awards at national and international festivals.
